Buying guide

Buy infrared heaters from Opranic

Opranic designs infrared heaters in Sweden and produces them in Europe. The range covers wall and ceiling mounted patio heaters, freestanding heaters for the terrace, industrial heaters for halls and workshops, slim infrared panels for the home and fans. The outdoor heaters use IR-X Carbon Black, a carbon fibre element that gives mediumwave warmth without the glare of shortwave heaters; the indoor panels work with long-wave infrared that warms surfaces rather than the air.

Opranic has worked with infrared heating since 2009. Choose a category, compare the models, or read on if you want help with output, placement and running cost before you order.

Good to know before you buy an infrared heater

How does an infrared heater work?

An infrared heater warms people and surfaces directly and does not depend on warm air. Outdoors you feel the heat within seconds, and it stays with you in a light breeze. Indoors the panel works in silence, with no fan and no moving parts. How infrared heat works.

Patio heater or indoor panel: what is the difference?

The patio heaters use IR-X Carbon Black, a carbon fibre element that gives mediumwave warmth with 1,800 to 2,300 W. They are rated IP65 and made for outdoor use only. The indoor panels give long-wave infrared heat with 300 to 900 W and are made for enclosed rooms.

How many watts do I need?

Indoors, allow around 100 W per square metre in an insulated room with a 2.4 m ceiling. Outdoors the answer depends on the area, the shelter and the wind. Open the calculator.

What does an infrared heater cost to run?

A heater draws its rated output while it heats. With electricity at €0.38 per kWh, a 2,300 W patio heater costs about €0.87 per hour at full output and a 900 W panel about €0.34. Lower heat settings, a timer or a thermostat reduce the hours at full output. See the running cost guide.

Infrared heater with thermostat or remote control?

Pro V70R, S70R and S50R come with a remote control, five heat settings and a timer. Indoors, the P6 Hybrid has a built-in thermostat, while the P5 and the P7 need an external room thermostat, sold separately. Choose a thermostat.

Freestanding infrared heaters: no installation

Outdoors, S70R and S50R are supplied with a base and connect to a standard socket. Indoors, the P5 and the P6 Hybrid can stand on optional feet, sold separately.

Advantages and limits of infrared heating

The advantages: direct warmth, silent panels, no gas bottles outdoors and simple installation. The limits: the heat travels in a straight line, so the heater needs a clear path to the people it should warm, and the surface gets hot. The indoor panels are only suitable for well-insulated spaces or occasional use.

Warranty, delivery and payment

Pro V70R, Pro V70, S70R and A70R come with a five-year warranty. The P5 and the P7 have five years on the panel and the heating element, the P6 Hybrid three years. Prices include VAT, delivery is available across the EU, and you can pay with PayPal or Klarna.
